    • hi
I really Need this for SPD 2007. It's basically the same as Expression web so I thought it might work.
Though it doesn't accept "xadd"-Files in te addin dialog.
I used this program for years now and it would be really helpful to get this addin working.
Is there a way to make this possible?
  • Embeding Video Into Expression Web 4

    • I downloaded the HTML5xadd and it installed just fine. I was hoping that it would add some other options to the 'insert media' functionality of EW. That is how I ran across this page in the 1st place - doing a search for embedding a video player in EW. I know that MS and Mac have never seen eye to eye, but your 'insert media' options leave Mac users out of being able to view video on my website. Inserting Windows Media Player or Silverlight works very well , but what about adding Quick time or something that works on Mac. I thought that was what HTML5 was supposed to help accomplish. You provide an option of inserting a swf movie, but it comes with no player or sking and the ones that are available from other sources are almost impossible to figure our without extensive knowledgd of HTML code.....which I do not have.
  • OK- What To Do With the Download???

    • I downloaded the HTML5Schema.xadd - now what??? There are no other *.xadd files in my Expression Web 4.0 folder and, of course, this file is not a program that installs itself. So... what do I do with it???
    • I'm wondering about this, too. Where do I download the .xadd file to?
    • There's a link on the right to a supporting URL... It's:

      http://blogs.msdn.com/b/xweb/archive/2010/10/06/add-html5-support-to-expression-web-4.aspx

It will guide you through the installation process for the add-in.
  • Html 5 Tag element attributes?
    1 Posts | Last Post February 09, 2011
    • I've got the schema installed and it's validating fine, but it doesn't seem to apply any attibutes for html5 elements. E.g. assigning style attributes to a section tag does nothing... it validates fine but doesnt actually change anything on the page layout.

Am I being a bit thick or is something wrong?

    • - seems to only work if DOCTYPE is in all caps. The spec no longer requires this to be all caps.

      - the script and style tabs no longer require the "type" attribute.

Overall great work though. Good to see some tooling around the HTML 5 spec.

Maybe you can add some templates that create an HTML 5 semantic web page and include the createElement javascript commands that enable backwards compatibility for legacy versions of IE
  • i am trying to install it but i can not enable it

    • when i was double check the path in AppData i found the error.txt file showing this error :

[06:57:46 م] Info: Script error in page file:///C:/Users/ipexil/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Expression/Web 4/Addins/HTML5Schema/js/toggleHTML5.js on line 33: 'Access to the path is denied.'
    • i solved the problem :) .. just running the WE4 as administrator on Windows 7

Note : you need to remove old versions installed in AppData first then re-install it again :) .. for me its working fine now ..
  • Add in Does not seem to Validate HTML Markup

    • I got the add-in installed and it does create a basic HTML5 page with the simpler <!DOCTYPE html>.

However, it does not recognize the new HTML5 page elements:
section, header, footer, nav and identifies them as incorrect.

I was hoping to use this in and introductory web course but as is it will only confuse my students.

I'm not clear if the add-on is not working correctly or just doesn't do that much.

      Regards,

    • Forgot to add that the HTML5 doc with these elements identified by EW4 and the add-in as not allowed in the current schema did validate on the W3C validator.

    • Hi. I can't seem to enable HTML5. The dialog box doesn't change when I click it and each time I go back in it says itis still disabled. Am I missing something?

    • Thanks for downloading the Add-In, Andy. :)

Please make sure you've checked the known-issues in the blog post I've liked to and delete any HTMLSchemaConfig AddIn directories in your Expression Web 4 AppData folder before you try and reinstall.

Enabling and disabling your HTML 5 configuration requires a restart of EW4 and you also need to have JavaScript in your system's IE enabled for any of the EW addins to work.

      I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Looks as though the Admin rights were the culprit! Got it working now.

    • Just bought Web4 last week. HTML5 is in the compatibility checker. Should I download and install HTML5 Schema add-in?

Next advance: CSS3. When can we use HTML5 and CSS3 in Web4?
